A Delta flight at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport was evacuated over the weekend after passengers reported fumes in the flight deck, while Atlanta Public Schools celebrated significant academic gains and a major manufacturing project is expected to bring thousands of jobs to Georgia.
About 200 passengers aboard a Delta flight bound for Orlando were told to leave the plane Saturday after fumes were detected in the flight deck. Passengers evacuated using the aircraft’s emergency slides and were later placed on another plane. No serious injuries were reported.
The incident comes as summer travel continues to keep airports across Georgia busy.
Meanwhile, Atlanta Public Schools is celebrating strong academic progress among its students. The district ranked first among metro Atlanta school systems for year-over-year academic gains during the current school year.
APS students posted gains in math, science and social studies that were more than twice the statewide average. The results are being celebrated as a sign of progress for students and teachers across the district.
Georgia is also preparing for a major boost in manufacturing jobs.
Siemens plans to build a new $185 million manufacturing facility in Jackson County. The project is expected to create about 1,400 jobs and will focus on producing low-voltage electrical components.
The facility represents another major investment in Georgia’s manufacturing sector and is expected to bring new employment opportunities to the state.
