If someone hasn’t already said it today, it needs to be said — Doechii really is that… you know what. Not only did she take home the Best Rap Album GRAMMY for Alligator Bites Never Heal, but then she slayed the house down with her performance of “CATFISH” and “DENIAL IS A RIVER.” AND THEN, to top it all off, she surprised her fans by dropping a brand-new single, “Nosebleeds.”

After being presented the award from previous Best Rap Album winner, Cardi B, who took home the golden gramophone trophy for Invasion of Privacy in 2019. Doechii took to the stage with a show of deep emotion to accept the honor, noting “This category was introduced in 1989, and two women have won,” she started, before correcting herself, “three women have won — Lauryn Hill, Cardi B and Doechii,” as the crowd erupted in applause.

“I put my heart and my soul into this mixtape. I bared my life,” she continued as she choked up. “I went through so much. I dedicated myself to sobriety, and God told me that I would be rewarded and that he would show me just how good it can get. And I have to thank God.”

“I need to thank my beautiful mother for coaching me,” Doechii added, reaching for her mother’s hand having brought her on stage with her. She then went on to express appreciation for her fans “The Swamp.”

“There are so many people out there who probably don’t know who I am. I call myself the ‘swamp princess’ because I’m from Tampa, Florida,” she said before encouraging record labels to find talent in that city.

Doechii also thanked her label and producers, as well as Hip-Hop, and took a moment to share some inspirational words for Black women everywhere.

“I know that there is some Black girl out there, so many Black women out there that are watching me right now and I want to tell you, ‘You can do it. Anything is possible,'” she said. “Don’t allow anybody to project any stereotypes on you that tell you that you can’t be here, that you’re too dark or that you’re not smart enough, or that you’re too dramatic or you’re too loud. You are exactly who you need to be, to be right where you are, and I am a testimony,” she concluded, whipping the crowd into cheer and a standing ovation.

Other nominees in the Best Rap Album category included J. Cole for Might Delete Later, Common & Pete Rock for The Auditorium, Vol. 1, Eminem for The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce), and Future & Metro Boomin for We Don’t Trust You.

Following her emotional victory, Doechii delivered an unforgettable debut performance of “CATFISH” and “DENIAL IS A RIVER,” as part of the lineup of Best New Artist nominee performances.

Doing the most in the best way, Doechii gagged us all (Billie Eilish and SZA included) with high energy, acrobatic choreography, and an eye-catching costume quick change — all while still rapping. Truly, we have no words, see for yourself with the clips and pics below.
