After her divorce from husband, Ruston Kelly in 2020, Kacey recently felt ready to step into the dating world, but quickly learned the game has changed.

"We live in this hookup culture," she told Zane Lowe. "I'm for whatever it makes you feel happy, as long as it's safe, doesn't hurt other people, fine. But I've just never experienced that, the dating app culture and all that."

She continued, “What I'm saying is, it was just shocking. It was a little shocking. It was surprising. And it made me just think that we all have flaws.”

The 33-year-old is readying to release her most vulnerable album yet, Star-Crossed, inspired by the emotions and experiences she faced post-divorce.

“I think that there is always reward in choosing to be the most vulnerable,” she shared. “I have to remind myself that’s one of the strongest things you can do — is to be witnessed being vulnerable.”

She continued, “I’m really glad for the opportunity to kind of acknowledge the relationship, acknowledge the love that I had, but move on and be better.”

Moving on is exactly what Musgraves is doing after her recent reality check in the dating world. She seems to have found gold with new boyfriend, Cole Schafer, who she has been spotted hanging out with since June.

Musgraves’ Star-Crossed releases September 10.
