As ROLE MODEL continues his epic 2025, he slowed down for just a few moments to talk with Bru inside our Los Angeles studios about "Sally, When The Wine Runs Out," the recording of his album, and his Netflix rom-com that's on the way.

"When I was making this album in the beginning, it was just like throwing paint at the wall forever and trying, like I always have, just trying a bunch of different things and sounds and inspiration. Pulling inspiration from 100 different places. And then I was just not loving anything. Nothing felt genuine," ROLE MODEL explains during his talk with Bru. "I felt like this was the album where I like really had to solidify myself and my sound, because there's like the sophomore curse or whatever, I think, right? And so I did feel pressure in a way and so I took a break. And was going home a lot and my music taste kind of shifted and I was listening to things that like reminded me of home, or things that my parents listened to growing up. I think you get to a certain age where that starts to be comforting."
"A lot of that when I was younger was mostly like Americana, Folky music like Jackson Browne, and Neil Young, and The Band, and just kind of pure Americana, and that started bleeding in and I felt inspired finally again and kind of wanted to experiment with that, and songs just came a lot quicker. Rather than taking a week to make a song because it was like being forced. Now it was like easy."
The results have been amazing, launching ROLE MODEL into a new stratosphere, touring alongside Gracie Abrams, finding the top of charts with "Sally, When The Wine Runs Out," and even scoring a starring role in the upcoming Netflix project, Good Sex.
"Back in September I had heard from multiple people that Lena Dunham was asking about me and just being like, 'Who is this guy? What do you think of him? What's his deal?' And I was like, 'Why is Lena Dunham asking about me?'"
"She wanted to get on a call and said she had a part for me in a movie that she was making, and as soon as she said rom-com, I was like, 'yes,' didn't hear anything else. I just heard rom-com and I was like, 'this is my dream,'" he smiles. "It has not felt real until recently, I don't know how I got put in her world, but I'm beyond blessed."
