Metro Atlanta residents are being urged to plan ahead as millions prepare to travel for the Fourth of July holiday, while extreme heat and a popular restaurant promotion are also making headlines.
Travelers flying through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport should expect heavy crowds, with more than 4 million passengers projected to pass through during the holiday travel period. Drivers are getting some relief at the pump, however, as gas prices continue to decline nationwide. In metro Atlanta, the average price for regular gasoline is around $3.57 per gallon.
Health officials are also warning residents and visitors to take precautions as temperatures rise. The combination of high heat and Georgia’s humidity could create dangerous conditions, with the heat index potentially approaching 105 degrees. Those attending outdoor events, including World Cup activities and the Peachtree Road Race, are encouraged to stay hydrated, take breaks in the shade and watch for signs of heat-related illness.
Meanwhile, Chick-fil-A is bringing back one of its most popular traditions. The Atlanta-based company announced the return of Cow Appreciation Day on July 14 as part of its 80th anniversary celebration. Customers who wear cow-themed clothing or accessories can receive select free breakfast or lunch items. The company also announced that more than 200 restaurant playgrounds nationwide will receive renovations.
