Have you been working remotely throughout the pandemic and found yourself looking for a change of scenery?

If so, Mississippi is calling your name with an offer you won’t be able to refuse!

The city is giving remote workers $6,000 to move to their “charming and historic” community for one year.

It’s all part of a remote workers incentive program called Shift South.

"We are excited to be the first and only city in the Deep South to offer an incentive like this to remote workers," the city of Natchez mayor Dan Gibson told CNN.

"Our warm and friendly people, the (Mississippi) river at our feet, our history and our beautiful sunsets make Natchez a great city to call home."

Gibson said the offer covers $2,500 in moving expenses along with a $300 monthly stipend for the duration of the year.

The program only has 30 slots available. Applicants must be employed in the U.S. as remote workers who can establish primary residence in Natchez and purchase a home valued at $150,000 or more. They must also be 18 or older and be able to live in the home for one year.

Gibson said the city, with a population of nearly 15,000, is proud of their “lower cost of living” with a high quality of living.

"The pandemic has really been a wake-up call to what people have been feeling for a long time," Gibson said, adding that he believes many remote workers are looking for more affordable places to live.

"They're tired of the big cities, the high cost of living and the long commutes. With this offer, you can live in a beautiful, historic small town where everything is convenient and affordable,” he explained.

Remote workers interested in moving to Natchez can apply here.
