The Padres bounced back from disappointing losses on Friday and Saturday to avoid being swept in Kansas City, defeating the Royals 19-2. Fernando Tatis Jr. had a monster game, going 2-5 with a home run, three runs scored, four rbis and a stolen base. It was Tatis Jr.'s second consecutive game with a home run and a stolen base. Jackson Merrill went 4-6 with two home runs and 4 RBIs and Ty France went deep twice with 5 RBIs, including a grand slam in the 8th inning. The Padres' offense finally provided a cushion for their pitchers, as German Marquez pitched 3 innings, followed by 2 innings from Yuki Matsui. After being reinstated earlier in the day, Randy Vasquez came out of the bullpen and threw three scoreless frames, as the Padres ended the series one game below .500 during a pivotal road trip leading up to the trade deadline. The Padres open a 4-game series in Atlanta against the Braves on Monday.
