The Padres announced on Wednesday morning that they have agreed to a 1-year contract with RHP Lucas Giolito. The veteran starter went 10-4 with a 3.41 ERA and 121 strikeouts in 145 innings for the Red Sox in 2025. Giolito became a free agent after declining a mutual option for 2026 he had with Boston, and waited until he found an offer he liked. The Padres optioned Giolito to Single-A Lake Elsinore, where he will begin rounding into form before joining the Padres. To make room for Giolito on the 40-man roster, the Padres transferred Bryan Hoeing to the 60-day IL.
