Fernando Tatis Jr. put on a show for the fans in New York as the Padres defeated the Mets 5-2 on Tuesday evening. Tatis Jr. did a little bit of everything, as he gave the Padres an early lead when he ambushed Mets starter Zac Thornton and deposited the first pitch of the game into the left-centerfield bleachers. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Robbie Ray was erratic, issuing three walks to load the bases. Needing just one more out to leave the bases loaded, Francisco Lindor hit a deep fly ball down the right field line, and Tatis leapt in the air, reached over the fence, and pulled back what would have been a grand slam to record the final out of the inning and preserve the Padres' 1-run lead. In the top of the 5th, Tatis Jr. went deep again, this time hitting a 2-run blast to put the Padres up 3-0, and provide all the offense they would need. Adrian Morejon was fantastic, recording five outs and getting out of a jam in the 7th inning with two men on and one out, before returning to pitch the 8th as well. Mason Miller retired the side in order while striking out two to earn his 31st save of the year. Michael King will start for the Padres in Wednesday's series finale.
