AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Texas will get its first round of COVID-19 vaccines in the next two weeks, Gov. Greg Abbott announced Wednesday.
Abbott said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has allotted the state over 1.4 million doses of the vaccines, which are expected to begin arriving in the state the week of December 14.
The initial allotment will be distributed to qualifying providers across the state who will administer them based on the distribution criteria established last month by the state's Expert Vaccine Allocation Panel.
"The State of Texas is already prepared for the arrival of a COVID-19 vaccine, and will swiftly distribute these vaccines to Texans who voluntarily choose to be immunized," Abbott said. "As we await the first shipment of these vaccines, we will work with communities to mitigate the spread of COVID-19."
Additional allotments may be made later in the month, and increased allotments are expected in January and in following months.
