AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- The coronavirus all but halted passenger traffic at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, according to data released by airport officials Tuesday.

Total passenger traffic for April 2020 was down 96.6 percent compared to April 2019, with just 47,781 passengers flying during the month.


Enplanements totaled 24,643 for the month, also down 96.6 percent compared to April 2019.

Individual carrier stats for the month:

  • Southwest Airlines passengers totaled 19,337, down 96.1%
  • American Airlines passengers totaled 13,255, down 94.7%
  • Delta Air Lines passengers totaled 6,130, down 96.9%
  • United Airlines passengers totaled 4,194, down 98%
  • Spirit Airlines passengers totaled 1,614, down 97.4%
  • Alaska Airlines passengers 1,493, down 97.2%
  • Frontier Airlines passengers totaled 1,292, down 97.1%
  • JetBlue Airways passengers totaled 466, down 99%

Total air cargo operations were down 11.5 percent year-over-year. International air cargo dropped almost 90 percent, while Federal Express was up 2.1 percent and United Parcel Service traffic was down 17 percent. Mail was down 86.4 percent and belly freight was down 40.2 percent.

So far, for the year, total passenger traffic is off 36 percent compared to 2019.
