AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Prices at Austin-area gas pumps are on the rise following the Thanksgiving holiday, according AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch.

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel across the Austin metro area is $1.82 this week, up seven cents from last week and 41 cents cheaper than a year ago.

Across the state, the average price is up five cents to $1.85 a gallon. Nationally, drivers are paying an average of $2.16, up four cents this week.

Drivers in Odessa are seeing the state's highest average at $2.09, while drivers in the Sherman-Denison area are seeing the state's lowest average at $1.74 a gallon.

The increases come after Texans saw the cheapest gas on Thanksgiving Day in 12 years. Analysts say the increases are tied to a rise in crude oil prices, while demand is at its lowest level since mid-June and regional supplies are on the increase.

"The statewide average increased from last week even as demand fell across the country," AAA Texas' Daniel Armbruster said. "Even as prices at the pump jumped week-to-week, Texans are still paying far less than this time last year."

Drivers in Texas are paying some of the cheapest prices at the pump, ranking 3rd lowest in the country, according to AAA data.
