AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- A physician at St. David's HealthCare has tested positive for COVID-19, the hospital system announced Wednesday.
Officials are not identifying the physician, only that they work within the St. David's system.
In a statement, St. David's chief medical officer, Dr. Ken Mitchell, said the exposure was not a breach of protocol. "The majority of the interaction between the physician and patients/staff occurred in areas where most healthcare workers were wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), which reduces the risk of exposure to a very low level," Mitchell said. "We will contact patients and providers who may require further observation and/or testing based on our risk assessment."
Mitchell says they're working to trace any potential exposure to patients, as well as other healthcare workers, based on the timeline of this incident.
