AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- As efforts to reshape Interstate 35 through downtown Austin continue to move forward in the planning process, state transportation officials are seeking the public's thoughts on another stretch of the highway.
The Texas Department of Transportation is hosting a virtual stakeholder forum on the I-35 Capital Express South project, which runs from State Highway 71 to SH 45 Southeast.
The $300 million project calls for two non-tolled managed lanes to be added in each direction. TxDOT is now aiming to make those lanes elevated between Slaughter Lane and SH 71, which would allow for a southbound intersection bypass lane to be constructed at Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive.
The proposed project also calls for widening frontage roads, adding auxiliary lanes for entering and exiting traffic, and constructing braided entrance and exit ramps on the northbound side at Slaughter Lane.
The open house will be available beginning Thursday at www.mobility35openhouse.com, running through Friday, December 15. Construction on the improvements is expected to begin in 2022.
