AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- An Austin Police officer has been indicted by a Travis County grand jury in connection with the on-duty shooting of a man in south Austin last year.

APD Officer Daniel Sanchez is facing a charge of felony deadly conduct in connection with the on-duty officer-involved shooting of 33-year old Rajan Moonesinghe in November 2022 in the Bouldin Creek neighborhood.

Police responded to a 911 call from Moonesinghe, reporting a man that was shooting into his home. Video released by the department shows Sanchez firing at Moonesinghe immediately after ordering him to drop his gun.

Sanchez fired at Moonesinghe five times.

Despite life saving efforts from officers and Austin-Travis County EMS medics, Moonesinghe was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Sanchez remains on administrative duty following the incident.
