AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin's newest event venue, the Moody Center, is ready for its opening bow.
Members of the media got in Monday afternoon to check out the new 15,000 seat venue ahead of Tuesday's ribbon cutting and the venue's first concert with John Mayer, set for Wednesday night.
Mayer, Bon Jovi, and Justin Bieber will "break in" the new venue ahead of its official grand opening celebration on April 29 & 30 - a star-studded, sold-out, two night event featuring George Strait, Willie Nelson, and the Randy Rogers Band.
The privately funded, $375 million, 530,000 square foot arena will replace the Frank Erwin Center as the home for University of Texas basketball, along with becoming one of the area's premier concert venues.
After the official grand opening later this month, the venue will welcome The Who, Dave Matthews Band, the Eagles, Machine Gun Kelly, Andrea Bocelli, Florence + The Machine, James Taylor, Leon Bridges, Alan Jackson, Shawn Mendes, Daddy Yankee, and more. Officials hope to provide more than 150 nights of "unique entertainment" on top of games for both the UT men's and women's basketball programs.
