AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority will hold a public meeting Tuesday evening to discuss a proposal to expand MoPac South by adding one to two tolled express lanes in each direction.

The proposal would stretch from Cesar Chavez Street, where the current MoPac Express Lane ends, all the way south to Slaughter Lane.

Tuesday's meeting is scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Bowie High School cafeteria, at 4103 W. Slaughter Lane. The materials that will be at the meeting are also available online at ph.mopacsouth.com.

Written comments will be accepted through May 3.

While the CTRMA maintains that the project is a necessary response to regional growth, critics label the current environmental study a "sales pitch." Opponents are particularly concerned about the highway's footprint over the Barton Springs segment of the Edwards Aquifer's Recharge Zone.
