Gas Watch: Austin area gas prices flat this week, Texas average up slightly

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin-area drivers are paying the same amount for gas on average this week as they did last week, according to the latest AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in the Austin-San Marcos metro area remained flat at $2.07 this week, which is 15 cents cheaper than a year ago.

Across the state, drivers are paying an average of $2.12 a gallon - the third-lowest average in the country. It's an increase of two cents since last week, and 11 cents cheaper than last year. Nationally, drivers are paying an average of $2.40, up four cents this week.

Drivers in El Paso continue to see the state's highest average at $2.32 a gallon, while drivers in Sherman-Denison continue to see an average just below the $2.00 mark at $1.99.

"Rising crude oil prices have led to an increase at the pump for drivers in the Lone Star State,” said AAA Texas spokesperson Daniel Armbruster. “And while the price increase trend has shown signs of slowing, higher crude oil prices may be on the horizon despite gasoline demand continuing to be below January 2020 levels.”
