TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas (Talk1370.com) -- Authorities are investigating after a man was shot and killed by officers Thursday night.
Manor Police say a 911 call came in just after 9 p.m. Thursday from the 10200 block of U.S. Highway 290, reporting a suspicious man in the middle of the roadway. Around the same time, Austin Police dispatch reported an attempted carjacking at the Capital Reyes warehouse just east of State Highway 130. A victim there was reportedly stabbed.
Both Manor Police and Travis County Sheriff's deputies responded to the initial 911 call. A deputy made contact with the subject around 9:24 p.m., who refused to comply with the deputy's commands. The man was armed with a knife, police said.
Additional officers arrived on the scene. At that point, a Travis County deputy reported deploying a Taser; with the subject still refusing to comply with officers' commands, both a TCSO deputy and a Manor Police officer fired their weapons.
Despite lifesaving efforts, the subject was pronounced deceased on the scene. The man's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Both agencies will investigate their officers' actions, in addition to the Texas Rangers, and will be placed on administrative duty.
