AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin Police say they're investigating after a man was shot to death on the city's northeast side Saturday afternoon.
Police responded to the scene near the 6000 block of Hickman Avenue around 4 p.m. on Saturday. That's near U.S. Highway 290 and Berkman Drive.
According to Austin Police, they received a 911 call reporting that a man had been shot and needed medical attention. When first responders arrived, they found a male victim with gunshot wounds.
Despite lifesaving measures, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police say a witness told them that the victim and the suspect were having a verbal altercation in the rear of a residence, that moved towards the front of the home.
The suspect left the scene in a vehicle, police said. A search is ongoing for that suspect, while detectives continue to work the scene.
There's no ongoing threat to the public, police said. Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact APD's Homicide tip line at (512) 477-3588.
This would be the city's 72nd homicide of the year.
