Police investigating two homicides overnight in north, northwest Austin

Crime scene

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin Police are investigating two homicides in less than eight hours that happened in the overnight hours Tuesday into Wednesday morning.

The first incident was reported just after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night from the 11000 block of Spicewood Parkway, near Topridge Drive in northwest Austin. A 911 caller reported that a shooting happened.

When officers arrived, they found a woman inside a home with obvious trauma to her body. Officers performed lifesaving measures, but the victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Police say the death appears to be connected to family violence, and there is no ongoing threat to the public. The individual or individuals involved are said to be cooperating with the investigation.

Just over five hours later, police received another 911 call, this time from the Austin Motor Inn near Interstate 35 and Braker Lane just after 2 a.m. Wednesday morning. The caller reported hearing gunshots.

When officers arrived at that scene, they found a man who had been shot in a hotel room. Despite efforts from Austin-Travis County EMS medics, the man was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Police say the suspect apparently ran off after the shooting; no one is in custody this morning.

Anyone with information on either case is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (512) 472-8477.
