AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- If you're looking to vote in next month's municipal and statewide constitutional amendment elections, you're running out of time to complete and update your voter registration.

April 7 marks the deadline for the May 7 elections, according to the Texas Secretary of State's office. First-time voters can complete the process through their county voter registrar, or through the Secretary of State's office.

"In the upcoming May 7 election, every Texas voter will have the opportunity to vote on two proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution concerning property taxes, and many Texas voters will also be voting on mayoral, city council, and school board candidates as well as local propositions," said Texas Secretary of State John Scott in a statement.

Proposition 1 would establish additional property tax cuts for the elderly and disabled homeowners, while proposition 2 would increase the homestead exemption for school district property taxes from $25,000 to $40,000.

Voters in the City of Austin will be asked to approve a citizen-led ordinance that would eliminate enforcement of low-level marijuana offenses, along with banning the use of "no-knock" warrants by the Austin Police Department.

In addition, other local municipalities across Central Texas will be holding elections for city offices, bond issues, and other propositions, including the following races:

Bee Cave: Mayor, council member
Cedar Park: Mayor, council places 2, 4, 6, and three bond projects
Elgin: Council members
