AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Two of the three victims in Sunday's deadly shooting in northwest Austin have been identified by the Elgin Independent School District.
Elgin ISD Superintendent Dr. Jodi Duron said early Monday morning that Alyssa Broderick and Willie Simmons III were killed in Sunday's shooting. Duron said that Broderick withdrew from the district last fall, but had been a student from 2009 to 2020.
While Broderick was in the district, Duron said she was an excellent student and athlete, enrolled in the Early College High School program, and played on the Wildcats girls' basketball team.
Simmons was a senior at Elgin High School, was a captain on the football team, and "represented the very best of Elgin ISD," Duron said. He had been recruited to play football at the University of North Texas.
“The Elgin ISD community grieves the loss of these two young, promising souls,” Duron said.
Counselors and other trained professionals will be available to assist students, staff, and families, Duron said.
