NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Fox News meteorologist Janice Dean is reportedly being urged to run against Gov. Andrew Cuomo in 2022 if he seeks a fourth term.
According to the New York Post, state Republicans are talking about the possibility Dean may challenge the Democratic governor if he runs again next year, which he has said he intends to do.
“Unlike the poser currently in the governor’s mansion, she really IS ‘New York tough,’ whip smart, and we can trust her. She’s got my vote,” Megyn Kelly, a former colleague at Fox News, told the Post.
Dean has become a fierce critic of Cuomo over his controversial directive in which coronavirus patients were sent to nursing homes. The directive was eventually scrapped by the governor.
Dean’s in-laws died from COVID at nursing homes in New York last year, deaths which she blames on Cuomo’s mandate, according to the report.
Last week Dean criticized Cuomo in a Zoom call with GOP activists, donors and state GOP Chair Nick Langworthy.
“It looks like the guy just wants to be a celebrity. He doesn’t want to be a governor. He wants to hang out with his buddies Bobby De Niro (and) Billy Crystal,” Dean reportedly said in the call. “Governor, if you want to be a celebrity by all means. Go to Hollywood and let somebody else take over.”
