AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has signed an executive order that would prohibit state agencies or political subdivisions, as well as any organizations that receive state funding, from requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination in order to receive services - or requiring a so-called "vaccine passport."
"Government should not require any Texan to show proof of vaccination and reveal private health information just to go about their daily lives," Abbott said in a statement. "That is why I have issued an Executive Order that prohibits government-mandated vaccine passports in Texas. We will continue to vaccinate more Texans and protect public health — and we will do so without treading on Texans' personal freedoms."
The move is similar to one last week by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who called the idea of the passports an infringement on personal freedom and decision making.
In addition to blocking government agencies and political subdivisions from asking for proof of COVID-19 vaccinations, the executive order would also extend to any organization that receives public funding, blocking them from requiring consumers to provide documentation of vaccine status in order to receive any service or enter any place.
