WESLACO, Texas (Talk1370.com) -- Calling the situation at the border "disastrous," Texas Gov. Greg Abbott welcomed former President Donald Trump to the Texas-Mexico border Wednesday.

Before touring unfinished sections of the border wall, Trump and Abbott joined in a security briefing in Weslaco, where Abbott outlined the major problems he sees at the state's southern border.

"Just this calendar year, DPS alone has apprehended more fentanyl to kill every man, woman, and child in the entire state of Texas," Abbott said.

Trump echoed Abbott's concerns. "The border has never been this way. It went from the best border we ever had in the history of our country... there has never been a border so secure as the southern border that we had," Trump said. "If you don't have a strong border, you do not have a strong country."

“Mr. President, things have changed so quickly and so dramatically under the Biden administration," Abbott said. "It’s been amazing and disastrous."

The visit by Trump and Abbott comes days after Vice President Kamala Harris made her first visit to the border since taking office, visiting El Paso.

Abbott has vowed to finish building the border wall within the state, including directing $250 million in funding from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and calling on private donors.
