BULVERDE, Texas (Talk1370.com) -- A 15-year-old student is dead and a teacher remains hospitalized following a Monday morning shooting that sent a high school about 25 miles north of San Antonio into lockdown.
Officials with the Comal County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the shooting happened at Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Bulverde this morning, with law enforcement arriving on the scene by 9:15 a.m.
According to authorities, the teenage suspect died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No other injuries were reported.
While the teacher was transported to a San Antonio hospital for treatment, officials have not yet released an update on her condition.
Law enforcement emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public, though the campus has remained under heavy police presence.
“We know this is incredibly difficult to hear,” officials said in a social media update. “What we can tell you is this situation is contained, and there is no ongoing threat to students.”
Investigators remain on site processing the scene.
In the wake of the shooting, students and staff were evacuated via bus to nearby Bulverde Middle School, where Comal ISD established a formal reunification center there for families.
School officials have implemented strict security protocols for the release of students. Only individuals listed as authorized contacts in school records will be permitted to pick up students, and a valid photo ID is mandatory for all parents and guardians.
Authorities continue to urge the public to avoid the area surrounding the high school to ensure emergency vehicles and investigators have clear access to the roads.
The investigation into the shooting is active and ongoing.
