TYLER, Texas (Talk1370.com) -- Saying social media companies are "censoring" political views, particularly conservative speech and ideas, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott threw his support behind a bill pending in the state legislature Friday.
Abbott joined State Sen. Bryan Hughes (R-Mineola) in Tyler on Friday afternoon to discuss Senate Bill 12, which aims to "help prohibit social media companies from censoring Texans based on the viewpoints they express."
"Conservative speech will not be cancelled in the state of Texas,” Abbott said. “[This bill] would allow any Texan who has ben cancelled, censored or de-platformed to file a lawsuit against Twitter, Facebook or any of these other companies."
The bill would prohibit social media companies from blocking, banning, demonetizing, or otherwise discriminating against a user based on their viewpoint or their location within Texas.
