AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Ahead of expected record demand this summer, officials at Texas' electric grid operator will perform a test of the agency's emergency communications channels Wednesday night.
ERCOT, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, says the test will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening.
As a part of the test, ERCOT says test messages will be sent across multiple communications channels, including the agency's Twitter account, mobile app, email distribution lists, and website, as well as operational messages through ERCOT's market platform.
ERCOT officials are forecasting a summer peak demand of 77,144 megawatts. The current record is 74,820 megawatts, set back in August 2019. One megawatt typically powers about 200 homes on a hot summer day.
