No business in Texas can require vaccine passports, it's now the law.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 968 into law. Among the things the sweeping bill does is prevent any government entity or business from requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of entry or service.
The bill had almost no opposition in the legislature - only two House Republicans voted against it.
The law took effect on the same day that Carnival Cruise Lines announced that it would resume operations out of the Port of Galveston early next month, requiring all passengers to have proof of vaccination.
In a statement, Carnival says it's evaluating the new law, which it says provides exceptions for when a business is implementing COVID protocols in accordance with federal law.
