AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- A deluge of heavy rains Sunday afternoon led to flash flooding in and around parts of downtown Austin, including water pouring into portions of the underground Capitol Extension.
The heavy rains began to fall early Sunday afternoon, with LCRA Hydromet gauges reporting nearly four inches of rain falling in some spots in one hour.
The heavy rainfall prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Flash Flood Warning for the central portion of Travis County.
Gov. Greg Abbott responded to eyewitness videos posted to Twitter, saying it was "all hands on deck" to deal with the situation. "The State Preservation Board is working with the Governor’s office as well as all applicable agencies to address flooding at the Capitol stemming from the current storm in Austin," Abbott's tweet said.
