Another state is sending state troopers to the southern border.

Last month, Gov. Abbott and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey sent a request to all state governors asking them to send state troopers or national guardsmen to help secure the border.

Yesterday, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine became the latest to heed that request, sending 14 highway patrol officers to the border for 14 days later this week.

The troopers will assist with surveillance and will not be tasked with making any arrests.

Ohio joins Florida, Arkansas, Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota and Idaho in sending either state troopers or national guardsmen to the southern border.

Abbott and Ducey are the two Republican governors of states that border Mexico; California’s and New Mexico’s governors are Democrats.

The state governors who have thus far agreed to send troopers to the border are all Republicans.
