
Texas roads are already crowded - and they might be even more packed this summer if travelers get wind of WalletHub's latest report.
Thanks to our abundance of great attractions, and excellent affordability, Texas has emerged on top of WalletHub's list of Best and Worst States for Summer Road Trips.
"For this particular study, we looked at a total of 32 different metrics, which can be grouped into three key categories: cost, safety, and activities," shared Cassie Happe from WalletHub. "So really the best states for road trips have a nice balance of being very cost-effective while having safe roads and activities that you can enjoy along the way."
Texas clinched the top spot overall by excelling particularly in the "activities" category. The state ranked fifth in that category, behind only California, Florida, New York and Alaska.of activities, showcasing a rich array of attractions.
The state ranks first overall in the total number of attractions and fifth in nightlife options per capita.
Beyond activities, affordability enhances our appeal.
"Texas did well when it came to having low gas prices," noted Happe.
The state ranked seventh for low gas prices and second for the lowest price for three-star hotel rooms.
Texas also offers some of the most scenic drives in the country. With 9,500 miles of scenic byways the state ranked 12th in access to these picturesque routes.
"Texas has a lot of scenic byways, which just makes it a really great state if you're looking to see the sites when you hit the road," mentioned Happe.
