AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's office is expanding its investigation into the effects of last month's winter storm on energy markets, issuing a Civil Investigative Demand to the Intercontinental Gas Exchange on Monday.
The natural gas exchange saw massive price increases during the February storm, according to a release from Paxton's office.
"As we learn more about what drove pricing spikes during the recent winter storm disaster, I am expanding the scope of my investigation to include the natural gas industry as well as electricity providers,” Paxton said in a statement. "These massive price increases impacted businesses and consumers alike and will have long term effects on Texas. Hardworking Texans who pulled together to get their communities through this disaster deserve transparency and justice."
The CID is the latest issued by Paxton's office in connection to the winter storm. Two weeks ago, 12 CIDs were issued to power companies seeking details on power outages, emergency plans, energy pricing, and other information.
