The National Hurricane Center is keeping its eyes on three tropical waves that have the potential to develop into tropical cyclones.

The closest to the Gulf of Mexico is a broad area of low pressure over the Caribbean Sea with a 60 percent chance of development by the end of weekend.

"Environmental conditions are forecast to be conducive for development of the low if it remains over water, and a tropical depression could form late this week or this weekend," said National Hurricane Center forecaster Robbie Berg.

The system could more northwest over the Yucatan peninsula and into the southern Gulf of Mexico by Sunday.

A broad low pressure trough in the north-central Atlantic has a 70 percent chance of development over the next five days, Whatever becomes of this system, it is not expected to be a threat to North America.

Farther east in the Atlantic, a tropical wave off of Africa has a 30 percent chance of development, with upper-level winds forecast to become less conducive for development by the weekend.
