HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610) -- Astros first baseman Yuli Gurriel has been placed on the 10-day injured list with neck stiffness, the team announced Friday afternoon.
Gurriel's placement on the injured list is retro to Aug. 3. He began Friday second only to teammate Michael Brantley in American League batting average (Brantley .331 and Gurriel .324).
Infielder Robel Garcia was optioned to Triple A Sugar Land, with infielders Taylor Jones and Jacob Wilson taking their spots on the active roster.
Garcia had seen action at third base and shortstop with Bregman injured, or when Correa was out. But he's struggled both in the field and at the plate, currently on a 0-for-15 streak and hitting .151 on the season.
Jones gives the Astros another option at first base with Gurriel injured, while Wilson is a utility player who should provide depth on the left side of the infield.
