The Texas Rangers have responded to comments from the Tarrant County Public Health director regarding the unlimited crowds that were in attendance at recent games, including the opening day game at Globe Life Field in Arlington.
The Texas Rangers say in an email to 1080 KRLD that the team is adhering to, and going significantly beyond, the COVID-19 guidance from the state.
The comments came after the director of Tarrant County Public Health took the Rangers to task for allowing a capacity crowd at its home opener on Monday.
"If we continue to do what we did yesterday, we’re asking for trouble," said Tarrant County Public Health Director Vinny Taneja, referring to capacity crowd of more than 38,000 people.
The Rangers say they have implemented several safety protocols, including physical distancing at the ballpark entrances, concourses and concession stands.
They also required fans to wear masks, although images from inside the ballpark suggest that that requirement was being loosely enforced, if at all.
Major League Baseball has left ballpark capacity up to each individual team based on state and local guidance.
