PROSPER, Texas (Talk1370.com) -- Tyler Albert threw for 359 yards and six touchdowns, including a late 32-yard strike on third down to seal the Prosper Eagles' 49-40 victory over Westlake in a high-scoring matchup Friday night.

The Eagles stuffed the box defensively, limiting Westlake running back C.J. Jones to 56 yards on 18 carries. Forced to rely on the passing game, Chaparrals quarterback Patton Jones delivered, completing 24 of 32 passes for 428 yards and three touchdowns.

Trailing in an electric second half, Westlake (2-1) cut Prosper’s lead to 42-40 when Jones found wide receiver Caden Berry for a 7-yard touchdown with just over three minutes remaining. The Chaparrals, who held the Eagles to 14 points in the first half but forced only one punt after halftime, needed a final defensive stop for a chance to win.

Albert ended those hopes, connecting with wide receiver Marcus McCoy on third-and-14 for the game-clinching touchdown.

"We let a great opportunity slip," head coach Tony Salazar said postgame. "[Our] offense stepped up, we made a bunch of plays tonight on offense, obviously settled for a couple field goals... would have liked touchdowns early, but we couldn't stop them."

Two costly turnovers hampered Westlake’s efforts. Wide receiver Braden Riddell fumbled at the Prosper 17-yard line on the game's opening drive, and CJ Jones lost a fumble late in the second quarter that led directly to a Prosper touchdown.

Westlake enters a bye week before hosting Midland Lee on Sept. 25.
