AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- As the blockbuster non-district schedule for the Westlake Chaparrals continues, the Chaps rose to the challenge again Friday night at Chaparral Stadium with a dominant 35-10 victory over Euless Trinity to move to 2-0 on the season.

Head coach Tony Salazar said postgame that the identity of this year's Chaps team is still coming together. "It's all three phases, offense, defense, special teams," Salazar said. "We're getting the ball to a bunch of different people. I mean, you saw a bunch of different backs run the football tonight. Our second quarterback got a chance to get in the football game did some good things. We're building some depth on the offensive line. Our young defensive line's growing up."

Salazar also highlighted improvements from last week's performance against Inglewood. "That was positive to see tonight, that against a physical football team they came out here and they answered the bell and we played better than we did last week," Salazar said.

Quarterback Patton Jones led the Westlake offense, throwing for 165 yards and three touchdowns. Two of those scoring strikes went to Rhett Jenkins, who finished with five catches for 55 yards, while Nash Chapman hauled in the third. C.J. Jones anchored the ground game, adding 38 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Westlake’s starting defense stifled the Trojans (1-1), limiting them to just three points and 111 total yards before the backups surrendered a late score. Abe Eppes and Henry Bandy combined for three sacks, and Trinity was held to a mere 31 passing yards, all in the second half. The Chaparrals also scored on special teams when Chase Brodhead returned a blocked punt 4 yards for a touchdown.

Westlake will move on to face Prosper in a key road test next week, while Trinity will look to bounce back against Aledo.
