MORGAN COUNTY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) busted a group of out-of-state suspects after an investigation into an illegal paddlefish operation.

MDC says three people have been charged after being found in possession of about 75 pounds of paddlefish eggs and five whole paddlefish. The eggs, also known as roe, is "highly sought after in wildlife trafficking and illegal caviar markets," the MDC states.

They say the evidence was seized after agents conducted 13 hours of surveillance in Morgan County.

The spoonbill, also known as paddlefish, is one of America's largest freshwater fish with "sharklike" featuring including a greatly elongated paddle-like snout, according to MDC.
