KANSAS CITY –   A 30-year staple of the Kansas City restaurant scene is no more.

The owners of the Salty Iguana took to social media Wednesday, announcing that when they closed their Independence location Tuesday night, that was it, all their locations were closed for good.

The announcement comes just under a week after workers were met with a big red sign reading “SEIZED” posted on the front doors of their Prairie Village and Lawrence locations.

At issue, unpaid sales and liquor taxes to the tune of $103,000 for the Lawrence location, $102,000 for the Prairie Village location.

They shuttered their Olathe location last year, and an Overland Park location shut down years before.

In their post, they thanked the many years of loyalty from their customers and staff and reminisced on setting a Guinness Book of World Records record for Largest Nacho to hosting KU Hawk Talk.

In other local restaurant news, the Hereford House has now closed its Zona Rosa location, months after it shuttered its restaurant in Leawood following food contamination by a worker there.
