2024 Hero World Challenge: PGA Model Picks

Top Picks for Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Cantlay, and Cameron Young

The 2024 Hero World Challenge is here, featuring 20 of the top-ranked golfers in the world at Albany Golf Course in the Bahamas. While it’s an unofficial event without FedEx Cup points, it still brings out some of the best talent in the game, making it an exciting betting opportunity. The BetQL model has analyzed the field and found value in key players like Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Cantlay, and Cameron Young. Check out our best bets for the Hero World Challenge, which kicks off this December.

Scottie Scheffler To Win (+220, BetMGM) - 3-Star

The BetQL model is back with some more winners in the PGA! That’s right, there is still golf being played in the month of December, the PGA never sleeps and neither does the model when it comes to cashing these picks. The model is projecting fair odds of +183 for Scheffler to win this event, so getting +220 at BetMGM is showing a bit of value here. It’s only a 3-star wager for the model, so nothing drastic, but worth a sprinkle for sure.

Scheffler is the best golfer on the planet, and there is very little disputing that. In fact, his +220 odds are by far the shortest in the field, with the next closest golfer clocking in at 9/1 in Justin Thomas. Scheffler ranked 1st in total strokes gained, 1st in approach to green, and 2nd off the tee. The only area of his game where he has struggled at all is his putting, but even that is ranked 77th on tour, which is still in the top half of golfers. He hasn’t played since the Tour Championship in September, so we’ll see if there is any rust there. Nonetheless, he should be in contention.

Patrick Cantlay To Finish Top-5 (+120, BetMGM) - 4-Star

The model is projecting -157 fair odds for Cantlay to finish inside the top five at the Hero World Challenge, so getting any sort of plus money here is going to show some serious value for the model. As I mentioned before, this is not a very big field at all, just 20 golfers are playing here. We just need Cantlay to finish within the top quarter of them.

The veteran American golfer ranked 38th in total strokes gained in the 2024 season, which is subpar from what we are used to seeing from him. Obviously that is still quite good, and he was ranked 53rd in putting and 61st off the tee. He did struggle quite a bit on his approach, ranking 102nd on tour, which is slightly below average. While he did have a down season, he is still one of the most talented and prominent golfers playing in this event, and his experience could very well help him out here.

Cameron Young To Finish Top-10 (-150, BetMGM) - 5-Star

The model is projecting fair odds of -381 for Young to finish inside the top-10 at the Hero World Challenge, which essentially means he has to finish inside the top half of the field. While this is juiced to -150 on MGM, that is a fantastic price for something that is projected at nearly -400 to occur at the event. That’s why the model is showing a 5-star value pick here with him, which is our best bet in this tournament.

Young is ranked No. 38 in the world, but he had a down season in 2024, sitting at 81st in total strokes gained. He was great off the tee, ranking 25th, and he wasn’t horrible on his approach where he ranked 87th. However, he really had a difficult time putting this past season, ranking a terrible 145th on tour with his short game. Obviously, you never want to see that if it comes down to a clutch shot at the end. However, we just need him to finish inside the top-10 at this event, meaning he just needs to have an average performance to cash this for us.
