What you need to know: WNBA Playoff Race

It's the final day of the WNBA regular season and the Las Vegas Aces are battling for the #1 seed

It is the final day in the regular season for the WNBA, and our hometown Las Vegas Aces are still battling for the No. 1 seed

Heading into the final day of the regular season, the Aces and Sky are still battling for the No. 1 seed. There are also four teams fighting for the final two WNBA Playoff berths. Only the Sparks and Fever have been eliminated from postseason contention.

For the Las Vegas Aces to maintain the #1 seed it's simply, win the regular season finale against the Seattle Storm in Sue Bird's final regular season game in her career.

For the Chicago Sky to get the #1 seed they have these possibilities: the Sky would need to win against the Mercury and a loss by the Aces against the Storm. If the Sky lose, they would still need an Aces loss, but would also need a Sun win over the Lynx to regain the #1 seed.

The 2022 WNBA Playoffs will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 17.

The Aces will host either the 7/8 seed on Wednesday for game one at 7pm locally on ESPN and game two will be on Saturday night at 6pm airing on ESPN2

How will the WNBA Playoffs work?

After the regular season has concluded, each of the top eight teams in the standings (regardless of conference) will clinch a berth in the WNBA Playoffs.

Each of those eight teams will play in a best-of-three first-round series. The higher-seeded teams will host Games 1 and 2.

Each of the teams that advance to the semifinals will play in a best-of-five series. The higher-seeded teams will host Games 1, 2 and 5.

The WNBA Finals will also be a best-of-five series.
