It's been too quiet on Raiders Way. For a team that embraces drama, we knew something was bound to happen. Just one day after Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Chandler Jones tweeted out: "Can't wait to play this year! Feeling great in practice," he indicated Tuesday in social media posts that he doesn't want to play for Josh McDaniels or GM Dave Ziegler.
What set Jones off was not being able to work out in the Raiders HQ. On Instagram Jones wrote "It's a shame that I am a top athlete with 112 sacks in the NFL and I have to go to a local gym to work out during the season for no apparent reason this is wild to me Josh and you know you need to do what's right." Jones said he would much rather play for defensive coordinator Patrick Graham if he took over as head coach. The four-time Pro Bowler later deleted the posts, but not before the damage was done.
Jones just returned from an unknown injury last week.
Last year the Raiders Darren Waller was seen at a Las Vegas Aces WNBA game rather than at Allegiant Stadium for a preseason game. He was leveraging the team for a contract extension, many believed. In September, 2019, the Antonio Brown saga came to an end after a drama-filled preseason camp. Brown asked for his release from the team via social media and the Raiders let Brown go hours after making his request.
The Raiders travel to Denver to meet the Broncos this Sunday.
