Following two joint practices this week in L.A., the Raiders are ready for Saturday's matchup against the Rams. Las Vegas will hope to carry some momentum into the second preseason game, after dominating the San Francisco 49ers at home last week 34-7.
The bright spots in the opener were the Raiders defense, which recorded four sacks, QB Aidan O'Connell had a big day and the rushing game led by Zamir White's 43 yards.
Rams head coach Sean McVay will hold out his starters. But QB Stetson Bennett is expected to see a lot of action. He was 17-29, 191 yards versus the Chargers last week. The Raiders pass defense should be tested for a second week.
Tempers flared in camp this week during the joint practices. On Wednesday, the Rams Cam Akers took exception to Maxx Crosby playing after the whistle and Crosby threw a punch at Akers. There were no fights Thursday as defensive lineman Aaron Donald returned from ankle surgery. He said he was focused on playing football.
There continues to be mixed reviews on Jimmy Garoppolo's progress. He missed Devante Adams on deep routes twice on Thursday, one pass was underthrown and the other sailed over Adams head. Garoppolo heated up, however, during the two minute drill. His favorite target was new addition Jakobi Meyers, who had three catches on the drive. WR Hunter Renfrow returned for the Raiders and could get some reps Saturday. Garoppolo is not expected to see action against the Rams.
This week the Raiders place OT Brandon Parker on the injured list and signed wide receiver Isaiah Zuber to the practice squad. First-round draft pick DE Tyree Wilson was activated this week.
