The Golden Knights skate in St. Louis Wednesday night (6pm Las Vegas time) looking to avenge a 2-1 overtime loss to the Blues on the back end of the home-and-home.
The Golden Knights are hoping to figure out goalie Jordan Binnington of St. Louis, who was nearly perfect in the game at T-Mobile Arena on Monday night. Binnington was perfect on VGK high danger chances, stopping all 20 VGK Grade A opportunities. The only VGK goal was scored by Jack Eichel through a solid Mark Stone screen. It came on the 31st Golden Knights shot on net.
VGK had numerous chances to score in Monday's game. Eichel said after the game that Binnington is "an elite goaltender" and the Golden Knights could get nothing by him. "There were a lot of positives out there for our game," Eichel said.
For VGK to bounce back Wednesday night, they need to score early. The Blues are 12-0 when scoring first in games, including Monday's victory at the Fortress.
The Golden Knights will also have to contain St. Louis left winger Pavel Buchnevich, who tallied the game winner just :38 into the extra period Monday. He has 16 points in the past 13 games. VGK had a defensive lapse in the loss in OT and they hope to cleanup their game without blueliners Alec Martinez and Shea Theodore tonight.
Starting goalie Adin Hill is also injured and didn't make the road trip. Logan Thompson has been the tough-luck loser in six of his last eight starts. He has been a victim of a lack of scoring when he's in between the pipes. During that span VGK was shutout twice and scored just the one goal Monday night.
VGK is hoping they can break through tonight and beat the hot goalie, Binnington.
