Aaron Rodgers and the Jets Could Benefit From a Key Monday Night Football Betting Trend

Underdogs have thrived on Monday Night Football, and the Jets are 4-point underdogs against the 49ers.

The first weekend of NFL football has arrived, and with it, the first Monday Night Football game will also get underway this week. While it is often a sad time because we know another NFL Week is ending, it also usually features some pretty good matchups, and we have a very juicy one here.

The San Francisco 49ers, the defending NFC Champions, will take on Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets. Rodgers played one possession for the Jets last year before suffering a season-ending injury, also on Monday Night, against the Bills. At nearly 40 years old, we will have to see how well he has recovered from that injury.

The good news for New York is that they are in a great spot on Monday night, if history means anything. Per BetMGM’s John Ewing, since 1998, underdogs on Monday Night Football are a combined 29-12-1 ATS, and the Jets are 4-point ‘dogs to the 49ers in Week 1.

While that doesn’t mean they are going to win the game, it could likely mean we could have a close contest if history stays on this path. In addition to that, the Jets have been moving in the market over the summer, opening +6 and moving to +4 as they are now.

Not only does history show that the Jets have a good chance here, but it appears that the sportsbooks will likely also need New York in this game by the time Monday night rolls around. Typically, the favorite receives a majority of the money on game day, sparking more liability on the 49ers.

I will likely be on the Jets come Monday, and will probably be sprinkling their ML. However, I will wait to see where the money goes as we get closer to the game.
