There has to be another move coming.
That is really the only takeaway from the team’s decision to acquire Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew in exchange for a conditional sixth-round pick in 2022, a move the team announced on Saturday.
Minshew, 25-years old with 23 starts in two seasons, has been clear that he wants to start. It is understandable he would want to — he has shown flashes of being a quality starter and is young enough where he could still have a long career if he wins a job.

Minshew has been so clear he wants to play that he even said he wanted to compete with Trevor Lawrence, the Jaguars No. 1 overall pick, prior to being traded. While he doesn’t have a choice, Minshew coming in and being the team’s third quarterback, behind Jalen Hurts and Joe Flacco, certainly doesn’t seem like a situation he would be happy about.
Unless, of course, there is another move coming.
The Eagles carrying three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster would be foolish considering how many other players they need to hold onto, either to develop or to get through to injured reserve after the initial 53-man roster. A third quarterback is a waste of a roster spot.
It is possible this means they could be coming on from Joe Flacco, but he has had a strong preseason and played well in the preseason finale. It is possible this means Jalen Hurts is on the way out in a deal for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, with Flacco and Minshew as the backups while Watson's legal situation involving multiple sexual harassment allegations plays out.
If another move isn’t coming, however, this seems like a foolish trade and a bad use of a roster spot.
