(SportsRadio 610) -- The Texans are re-signing running back and special teamer Buddy Howell to a one-year deal, according to the Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson.

Howell's one-year contract is for a maximum value of $1.8 million, Wilson reports.

The deal, which reportedly includes $1 million in base salary, a $200,000 signing bonus an dup to $300,000 in per-game active roster bonuses, is the alternative to a $2.133 million restricted free agent tender.

While most of Howell's work is done on special teams, he rushed the ball sparingly when injuries hit the running back group. Howell rushed for 64 yards on 16 carries, caught one pass for three yards and blocked a punt last season.
