It’s NBA Draft Night, but the Capitals have made a big move ahead of their own draft this weekend: they have acquired forward Jordan Kyrou from the St. Louis Blues for forwards Connor McMichael and Milton Gastrin and the No. 16 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.
Kyrou, 28, scored 18 goals and notched 27 assists in 72 games for the Blues last season, but he had three straight 30-goal seasons from 2022-23 to 2024-25 0 including a career high 37 in 2022-23 – and he leads the Blues in goals and games played over the last five seasons.
“We are thrilled to acquire Jordan and welcome him to our team,” GM Chris Patrick said in the team release announcing the move. “Jordan is an exceptionally talented and dynamic offensive player who will make an immediate impact on our club. His skill, creativity, and ability to generate offense at an elite level will be a tremendous addition to our group. At just 28 years old and under contract for the next five seasons, Jordan is entering the prime years of his career. We believe he is an ideal fit for our team both now and for the long term.”
Kyrou is entering Year 4 of an eight-year, $65 million deal, and will count $8.125 million against the Caps’ salary cap.
McMichael was Washington’s first-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. He recorded 67 goals and 87 assists in 315 games in DC, including 14 goals and 32 helpers in 78 games last season, and is set to be a restricted free agent.
“We would also like to sincerely thank Connor for everything he has contributed to our club,” Patrick said. “Since being drafted in 2019, Connor has represented our team with professionalism and class both on and off the ice. We wish him and his family nothing but success as he begins this next chapter with St. Louis.”
Gastrin was the Caps’ second-round pick in 2025, and spent last season in Sweden.
The Capitals dealt their own pick, No. 16, in the deal, but still have a first-round pick at No. 18, which they acquired from Anaheim in the John Carlson trade.
